About Stonewater Therapy

Compassionate, individualized therapy grounded in evidence-based practice and genuine human connection.

Mission

Stonewater Therapy provides compassionate, evidence-based care that recognizes each person's experiences, strengths, relationships, and goals. Our mission is to create a supportive and collaborative space where children, teens, adults, and families can better understand the challenges they are facing, build on their strengths, and work toward meaningful change.

Therapy Centered on You

People come to therapy for many different reasons, and no two people's experiences are exactly the same. You may be navigating the effects of trauma, living with ADHD or autism, experiencing anxiety or depression, facing changes in relationships or family life, or simply recognizing that something isn't working the way you would like.

At Stonewater Therapy, you are more than the concerns that bring you to therapy. Treatment considers your experiences, relationships, strengths, challenges, and goals and is tailored to what is most meaningful and helpful for you.

I believe effective therapy begins with a genuine relationship—one where you feel heard, respected, and able to bring your experiences into the room without being reduced to a diagnosis or a set of symptoms.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I work with children, teens, adults, and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and performance-related concerns. I draw from evidence-based approaches while tailoring treatment to each client's developmental needs, experiences, strengths, relationships, and goals.

My background brings together clinical practice, psychology, education, leadership, and organizational experience. I have taught and mentored psychology students at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, and my academic and professional experiences have shaped my interest in how people develop, adapt, build resilience, and create meaningful change.

My Approach to Therapy

Therapy at Stonewater is collaborative, individualized, and grounded in evidence-based practice. Treatment begins with understanding what brings you to therapy, what is happening in your life and relationships, the strengths and resources you already have, and what you hope will be different.

Depending on your needs and goals, therapy may draw from cognitive, behavioral, relational, somatic, narrative, and strength-based approaches. Susan also has specialized training in treatments including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Rather than applying the same approach to every client, treatment is adapted to developmental needs, experiences, relationships, strengths, and goals.

Stonewater Therapy also supports neurodivergent children, teens, adults, and families. Services include ADHD and autism assessment as well as therapy tailored to individual strengths, needs, experiences, and goals.

Why Stonewater Therapy?

Over time, water can reshape even the hardest stone—not through force, but through steady movement.

The name Stonewater reflects a belief that meaningful change often happens in much the same way. Therapy does not erase what you have experienced or require you to become someone different. It can create space to understand yourself more fully, develop new ways of responding, strengthen what is already working, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Stonewater represents the qualities we hope to bring to therapy: steadiness, compassion, resilience, and the possibility of meaningful change.
